Divorce Related Resources

  1. Centre for Public Legal Education (CPLEA): Centre for Public Legal Education is a non-profit that provides legal information on a variety of topics, including family/divorce law, which are useful for Albertans.

  2. Alberta Courts - DIY Divorce Guide: The Alberta Courts website has a guide and forms on how to file for divorce on your own. Reach out if you are finding it too difficult to complete on your own.

  3. Consent Order Application: You can apply for a consent order if you and your former spouse/partner have reached an agreement. This link has instructions on how to prepare and file a consent order.

  4. Maintenance Enforcement Program

  5. Child Support Recalculation: If your order is eligible, you can update child support using this program, which saves you on legal costs

  6. Restraining and Protection Orders: Information on how to apply for OR respond to a restraining order or emergency protection order.

  7. Federal Child Support Calculator: Federal Child Support Calculator will generate the current amount of child support payable in simple situations. We can assist you in understanding how this works in more complicated situations, such as shared parenting.

  8. Our Family Wizard: Our Family Wizard is a community tool that helps improve co-parenting relationships. This is routinely recommended/ordered by the Courts to be used by parents who need to streamline their schedule, communication, and track shared (section 7) expenses.


Affordability Resources

  1. Calgary Legal Guidance (CLG): Calgary Legal Guidance is a local non-profit that JKB Law volunteers with and supports. They provide free legal advice and their website has useful information on various legal issues.

  2. Legal Aid Alberta: If you are unable to afford a lawyer, you can apply for Legal Aid who may offer you coverage.

  3. Law Society Find a Lawyer: Utilize the Law Society's resource on finding a lawyer in Alberta.

  4. Calgary Public Library Services: Access free resources at Calgary Public Library for assistance with family law issues, including printing, computer access, and various programs.

  5. Pro Bono Law Alberta (PBLA): Find free legal resources and advice through PBLA, supporting those in need of legal assistance.

  6. Student Legal Assistance (SLA): Student Legal Assistance (SLA) provides free legal information through the University of Calgary law students who volunteer their time.
